We are in need of PPE
The world is in much better hands because of organizations such as those you have assembled. Your work has truly been inspiring throughout the pandemic, which leads to this request. I would like to take a moment to introduce you to another special organization, Kline Galland. Kline Galland is a non-profit long term senior care center providing services to some of Seattle’s most indigent residents. As you know quite well, these past few months have been quite intimidating. Taking care of 350 seniors, with many of them over the age of 90 has been very challenging. So far Kline Galland has managed this very successfully with only one COVID19 case.
We know that the most vulnerable people in our society right now are those people with… underlying conditions, particularly the elderly. Saving our seniors and the infirm was the logic of all of our collective action—and rightly so, for a good society should protect its vulnerable. Senior living providers in general are weighed down by the numerous costs related to COVID19. Because nursing homes are after all, ground zero, we need for our communities to match the same high pitch of urgency with which they supported their hospitals. As we begin to see the pain and disruption caused by the pandemic, we are reminded this has been an extremely hard fought battle for our elderly in long term care institutions. Assisted living facilities have been largely overlooked in coronavirus-relief efforts, leaving many facilities under regulated, understaffed and underfunded. Fortunately, for Seattle we have Kline Galland. Kline Galland is indeed different – for starters we have highly trained professionals committed to real infection control protocols which most nursing homes do not have available. The Kline has made an investment in technology and their leadership has enforced strict protocols to protect both their residents and staff. Due to the pandemic, the economics of long-term care will worsen. Expenses are on the rise with facilities across the country scrounging for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), coronavirus tests, cleaning supplies and other essential resources. What’s more, there is competition to hire experienced and effective nurses and other healthcare clinicians.
Since its founding in 1914 by Caroline Kline Galland, a most special humanitarian - the organization has become one of our nations most respected and innovative non-profit long term care facilities in meeting the quality of life and care needs of our aging family and friends. Kline Galland (KG) offers a full continuum of services for our residents from assisted living, skilled nursing and even has a home health/care visiting program providing assistance to those seniors wishing to remain independent. KG also operates the busiest rehabilitation/transitional care program in the state of Washington. Collectively, we are caring for 15,000 residents, patients and their families. We are extremely honored and proud to be known as the community’s single source for senior care resources. Keeping our residents, patients, and staff safe continues to be our utmost priority, and managing this process during a global pandemic has come at enormous costs. The coming months will require even more vigilance, as our needs grow for more PPE, rapid testing requirements, and additional staff, including training and resiliency resources for our frontline hero caregivers.
Today, we are writing to find out if your organization might consider supporting Kline Galland (KG) with an in-kind gift of PPE to include Face Shields, N95's, K95's, gowns and much more. At a time where we must all come together, to support prevention, healing and recovery, KG is committed to doing everything in its power to help our community, especially those in greatest need – navigate this pandemic. Please know we are sincerely thankful to have the support of a very generous community, but because of the potential threat and our commitment to our residents, we would be most grateful for any consideration you might give to this request.
